Not all boudoir sessions look like this…in fact most of them don’t! But we had so much fun dreaming up and styling this Marilyn Monroe themed shoot!  The images are a little more “pin-up” style than we normally shoot – but it’s always fun to switch it up a bit and it gave me a chance to really flex my lighting muscle!  My studio is powered by mostly glorious natural light!  But I love brining out the studio lights for some more dramatic/sexy images!

I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite Marilyn quotes:

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
Fear is stupid. So are regrets.
The real lover is the man who can thrill you by kissing your forehead or smiling into your eyes or just staring into space.
Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she’ll conquer the world.

Do you want to know how many times I wrote and re-wrote the opening sentence to this blog post?  Well it was way too many to count. So here we are! I have a million thoughts going through my head right now.  I first want to talk about these GORGEOUS photos then I’ll dive into the deeper stuff!  I love, LOVE shooting these soft and delicate details for boudoir!  I’ll post the second half of this shoot later, but I had to keep these simple and clean photos in a post of their own!  I sound like a broken record, but I pride myself of offering classy boudoir photography Lubbock, and this shoot truly shows my style! I love how the images turned out! ENJOY!

Now on to the serious stuff! 😉

Guys.  This whole business thing.  This boudoir thing.  Some days it’s really HARD on me.  I’m a self-proclaimed introvert.  I’m also one of the most modest people I know.  So how in the world did I end up here? Taking photos of women in lingerie?!  Having an internal battle about the whole business every other week…  I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching lately.  At the beginning of the year I had a little incident with my business and in the midst of that and being 7 months pregnant, I was ready to close the doors and run for the hills so as not to deal with any of that drama ever again!  But Je-T’adore and boudoir photography has always been a step or two outside my comfort zone.  And going there.  Going outside my own comfort zone always produces growth.  Growth personally.  Growth spiritually.  Just growth!  It always pushes me to go further than I normally would and in my experiences that’s where I realize my best.  So I’ve asked myself a lot lately…

Why shoot boudoir? What does it mean? What drives my passion for it?

And the answer? – Well there are several, but Love is at the center of it all.  I believe in boudoir because I believe in love.  I believe in the strength and power and beauty of women. I believe in the sanctity of marriage.  I believe that passion and intimacy in marriage is one of the most integral parts of it.  I believe that sometimes OFTEN times women just don’t see themselves the way their loved ones see them.  I believe that helping others…helping YOU step outside your own comfort zone is a way to produce change and love in your own life.  Toward yourself. Toward your loved ones. I believe that every women should feel beautiful.  I believe that every woman deserves a “ME” day and doing a boudoir session is kind of exactly what that is!  I believe in myself! Which is hard to say some days because I struggle with comparison and all those feelings of inadequacy that we all deal with! I believe in beauty. I believe in boudoir photography!

Over the last 5 years I’ve photographed women from EVERY walk of life…Newlyweds, soon-to-be’s, mom-to-be’s, mothers of 5, women celebrating 25 years of marriage or their Husband’s 50th birthday… And I consider it an honor every time a woman trusts me to photograph them in the most vulnerable way possible.

This year I’m focusing a lot more on my clients.  Why you are doing the shoot?  Your nerves and reservations before the shoot.  How you felt during the shoot, and how you felt after you saw the photos of yourself.  My goal has always been to help women see themselves the way the rest of the world, the way their loved ones see them.  As beautiful, strong, incredible people.  As much as I know and understand women being critical of ourselves and self conscious of this or that flaw – I’m still astounded by seeing this play out.  All women, no matter their size or age, or what they’ve been through in their life struggle with a little bit of these issues and I love that my job is something that gives them a chance to see themselves through a more clear lens than the distorted view we have through our own mirror.

This recent testimonial blew me away! And I wanted to share!

The (kinda sappy) truth is that your images provoke a confidence within me and make me feel proud of myself, and I kinda just want to hang onto them for myself! We are trying for a family and (hopefully) someday when I’m covered in spit-up, I’ll have these beautiful images to reflect back on…You’ve really got a unique gift to capture beauty and primal desire that provokes a confidence within, what society might call, “everyday” women. Thank you for taking time with me.
